Hello dear reader, and welcome to my blog– a place dedicated to writing, reading, and God. I hope you enjoy your time here!
For my first blog post, I figured I’d introduce who I am and why I write. I want to be completely transparent with my readers about my mission. So, let’s jump in!
First of all, I am a child of God. I have been saved by grace through faith and have accepted Christ as my Savior. This is very important, because my writing stems from my love for God. I believe writing is something God has gifted me with and called me to do; therefore everything I write should be centered on Him, or more specifically honoring Christ through Story.
But what does honoring Christ through Story mean? If you haven’t noticed, that is my mission statement. It is a summary of why I do what I do. But to further explain, let’s go back in time a few years, when I was just an average (okay, slightly weird) middleschool girl.
Reading has always been a passion of mine. Almost every week, I’d leave the library with a huge stack of books in my arms to dive into each night before bed. But as time wore on, I found myself leaving half of those books unfinished for a multitude of reasons. Most of the time they were books that included certain topics or word choices into the story that went against my faith and were inappropriate for children and teens. Usually my mom would research each book before I checked it out to see if it contained anything like this, but soon it grew to be too much, and she just had to trust that I would put the book down if I saw anything.
You can imagine what effect this had on a book-loving middleschool girl– I grew sad and untrusting of all books, hesitating to pick one up unless I knew it was okay. I was disappointed with authors, for most of the time the books that contained inappropriate things only mentioned them once, raising the question of “why is this necessary?” To this day I don’t read books out of the YA section, and I still come across unneeded mentions of things that teens should not be reading about even in the children’s section.
When I was in eighth grade, I came across a book series that changed everything. The Wingfeather Saga was the first series of books I had read that inspired within me a need to actively seek good, wholesome fiction rather than selecting random books from the library shelves and hoping they would be appropriate. It was also the series that inspired me to write those same kinds of books; books that honor Christ through Story.
I took that inspiration and ran with it, learning more and more about the writing world and immersing myself into my own fantasy realms. Now my mission as a young author is to provide more of these “inspiration stories” to people who feel conquered by the biases of the book industry. I want to highlight the good in stories and help readers remember that there are still good books in the world. And I want to support other writers and authors with this same mission and create a community of story-lovers who desire stories that honor Christ.
This is my mission statement: to honor Christ through Story. I hope you will join me in seeking out stories that are good and wholesome for the soul, and I hope you will support others like me in their mission! You can find a condensed version of my story in the About the Author section, and this one will always be available for you to read as well.
And that concludes my first blog post! I hope it was helpful, and I can’t wait to get to know my readers as well! You can comment down below with any questions you have, or you can share a little about yourself!
See you among the shelves,
